Sustainability can mean something different to each of us. So when we created eco beach, we took our time to understand what we wanted sustainability to mean to us. We then put this at the heart of everything we do and everything we sell. That's why we take our time to find suppliers that feel the same way we do, and we are careful to only offer products that meet our high standards. As our journey continues, our range of sustainable products grows and we hope you will join us in living a sustainable life.
Before any product qualifies for the eco beach brand, we want to know.:
What is it made of?
How was it made?
Is it made to last?
If you want to know the techie stuff, read on...
1. What is it made of?
For our garment and bag collection, we insist on organic or recycled materials that care for your skin and the environment.
Our suppliers are governed by the strictest environmental certifications and labels in the market. The organic cotton they use is a natural, GMO-free fibre that uses much less water during manufacturing than standard cotton. It is grown without the use of chemical fertilisers or pesticides and with regular crop rotation to keep soil healthier, more fertile and maintain humidity. Waste from the cotton ginning process is also recycled for the animal feed industry.
As a result, our garments all carry the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) label, the strictest certification for textiles made from organic fibres. GOTS tracks the entire chain of production from farm to factory: from harvesting of the cotton, weaving of fibres, assembly of items, to the final product. It certifies that the product is GMO-free, is grown without the use of chemicals and is processed and dyed without using any banned toxic substances. GOTS also ensures compliance with the labour standards of the International Labour Organisation throughout the chain of production.
The cutting of cotton material to make our garments naturally leads to some scrap material. To ensure this is never wasted, the material is recycled into new cotton thread that is used in the manufacture of our tote bags.
RECYCLED POLYESTERSome of our hoodies and sweatshirts contain up to 15% recycled polyester which makes the material soft yet strong. The polyester is made from recycled PET plastic bottles and is sandwiched between layers of cotton so it never comes into direct contact with the skin.
Our garments carry the Global Recycled Standard label which certifies that the materials used are recycled: in the case of polyester, from plastic bottles, and for cotton, from cutting waste. GRS also guarantees compliance with social and environmental criteria such as treatment of waste water, the absence of certain toxic additives and respect for working conditions in our partner factories.
WATER BASED INKS
Our printing partner was the first screen printers in the UK to exclusively use 100% solvent-free water-based inks for garment printing.
The inks they use do not contain ozone-depleting chemicals such as CFC’s and HCFC’s, aromatic hydrocarbons or any volatile solvents. They don’t contain lead or any heavy metals. In fact, they do not contain any toxic chemicals at all! Not even white spirits like many water based inks on the market. These inks are certified to OEKO-TEX Standard 100 and are safe to use on underwear, swimwear and even baby clothes. The inks used for printing onto white garments are also certified organic with the Soil Association.
As well as being ecologically sound, our inks are also hard wearing, super-bright and with very high opacity. They are highly durable to wash, wear and even to dry clean. We recommend washing up to 30°C but don’t recommend tumble drying. The inks contain a superior pigment colour for brightness and opacity, which means that you can use water based inks on dark colours without having to resort to bleaching the fabric using harmful discharge printing.
To top it off, these water based inks have the added benefit that they don’t have a rubbery feel like plastisol inks or transfer printing. They are softer to the touch and feel like an integral part of the garment material, rather than an add-on.
OEKO-TEX: TRUST IN YOUR CLOTHES
OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certifies the absence of harmful chemical substances in all our garments thanks to the “Confidence in textile” label. An independent testing and certification system that ensures that all raw, semi-finished and finished textile products are processed in a way that prioritises:
The precautionary principle, which prohibits certain potentially harmful substances even where they are not (yet) legally banned
The absence of chemical substances that are harmful to health and the environment
A restriction on the lead content of dyes
2. How was it made?
We are also proud to announce that Stanley/Stella is PETA certified. This means that we do not conduct or commission any animal tests on ingredients, formulations, or finished products and pledge never to do so. On top of this, our apparel is made from 100% vegan materials so you can be confident that no harm came to anyone during its creation.
Since 2012, we have been
proud members of the Fair
Wear Foundation (FWF), an
international organisation that
aims to improve workers’
conditions in the textile
industry in South Asia. Supporting us to cooperate with our suppliers, to the benefit
of all workers, it carries out audits in all our
factories every three years, and puts

LET'S TALK ABOUT THE 'P' WORD
Like it or not, plastic is here to stay in our world. It is ubiquitous in our daily life and, for now at least, we cannot live without it. What we can do is manage how we use it and reduce
As a small business, we can't dramatically change the world by persuading everyone to stop buying plastic toys overnight. But perhaps we can change the world a little by only offering our customers plastic toys that are built to last. So that is what we do.
If a toy lasts twice as long and only needs to be replaced half as much, then we've reduced the plastic in the world by half. Result!
